Closing Statement ( Last Entree)

Dear Mr. Jefferson, The journey was the Corps at its best. The journey was America at its best. Throughout this life changing expedition of exploration from the Missouri river to the Pacific Ocean, the corps and myself discovered unknown wildlife, peoples, herbs, and new territories. The Corps accomplished this by working diligently as a team. Meriwether Louis and William Clark did their job, with meticulous observation, determination, and consideration for the members of the corps who worked with them. America is a beautiful place from sea to sea, abounding with abundance of many sorts. We are proud that we were members of this fascinating Expedition. Signed, Chris Benwitt

PS: For only weekly labors, discoveries… for all my endeavors brought to the journey, I believe I should be paid the grade of… A-
As a member of the Corps I have tasted buffalo, seen wolves and elk, and wrote journals explaining what we saw on the Expedition. I hope my writings sounded realistic and the tools that I used were appropriate. I have made it to the Pacific Ocean and it has been an honor serving you, Captain John. We saw America new, clean and pristine. A wondrous land full of wondrous possibilities. Not entirely an easy place but definitely a place where a man can make choices.

Seamans Spirit Guide?

September 22, 1805

Could White Feather be my spirit guide? Today when we were hiking, a surprising thing happened. White feather was crowing and making all kinds of noise, but the men couldn't hear him? Not to long ago I learned about spirit guides. Could animals have spirit guides to?

My Spare Time

I have found a way to amuse mself. When we walk into camp everyday and I sniff about to see if any dangerous animals were around and or Indians were in the same area as we were. My nose hasnt failed me yet. Throughtout the expedition my nose has saved me from countleass bear attacks, helped captain Lewis find indians, and find food.

The Hunger Of The Core

September 3, 1805

Near the beginning of the expedition the core was eating elk, deer, buffalo, and birds. The men were used to eating six pounds of meat everyday. We are now in the terrible mountains were there is scant of the meat that the Expedition is used to. It was a shame that the roots that we had to eat didn't agree with the men's stomachs and the all complained and ached.

Salmon

September 22, 1805

The Core has come to a river filled with fish. A fish we have decided to name Salmon. I personally loved this soft, tender, sweet, filling fish but the members of the expedition did not. Thousands of mouthwatering fish swimming up river as if a sign from god and the core just pit out the delectable meal and continued on. I was dumbfounded and confused. I thought to myself : Humans are strange creatures.

The First Indian

August 8, 1805

I looked up on the horizon and saw a human like figure with his gallant, hazel, horse underneath his britches. This was a great accomplishment for if this was a Shoshone Indian than we could meet with the chief and trade for horses that would help us cross the Great Mountains.
